I strive to have students not only meet achivement standards, I aim for students to surpass those standards. I do this via the use of tasks and lessons that are intitally linearly desgined, before opening up allowing for students to engage with the content in different ways of their own chosing. This differentiation lets students of all levels of ability engage in the lessons and tasks to the best of their capability. This is especially important in Year 9 Digital Technology classes onwards as not all students who join the classes have previous Digital Technology experience. One such example of this differentiation can be found in the year 9 DT task Pythagoras Caculator. As students aim for different levels of achivement the task goals expand into more open ended goals that require students to use their problem solving abilities. Task - Pytha Calc
Well planned and engaging lesson sequences and content are crucial in engaging students in learning. The lessons sequences I plan breakdown complex content ideas into simple yet effective learning opportunites for students by gradually introducing content elements that increase in complexity. I use a variety of teaching strategies within my classes including lesson and/or weekly goals, differentiation, graphical representation of concepts, providing feedback and problem solving techniques. As an educator I is important to evaluate how succesful a unit or program has been. To do this I collaborate with my collegaues (both in school and in the wider state community) to moderate and evaluate overall preformance of my programs.
Parents / Caregivers are a vital part in the education of students. As a teacher I participate in report writing each term, talk to parents one on one at school gatherings such as induction days and parent teacher interviews. I contact parents via the phone if required (for both positive and negative issues).
